About Stumptown Mundo
Stumptown Mundo started out with a search for a clear solution to a murky problem. After selling their car in February, 2007, the Towsey-French family set out to find the ideal solution for getting around on a daily basis. What they devised was a combination of resources they still use today: walking, cycling, strolling, public transportation, car-sharing, and occasionally borrowing a car from family and friends. While not as simple as stepping out of their home and into an automobile, this “transportation cocktail” opened their eyes to the community in a way they never anticipated. By selling their car, the Towsey-French family transitioned from living at a hectic pace, to simply experiencing life at their pace –a pace worth experiencing.

Living free of car ownership, the Towsey-French family developed a keen appreciation for the needs of a family of four, and meeting said needs on a daily basis without a car. After more than a year of searching for an affordable solution for everyday transportation, they found Yuba and its passionate co-founder, Benjamin Sarrazin.

In September, 2008, after achieving record-shattering sales 300% beyond forecast, Jeremy Towsey-French transitioned Stumptown Mundo to its new owner, Joe Doebele, and the Mundo’s presence in Portland continues in full force!

About the Yuba Bicycle Manufacturing Company
Yuba was launched in 2006 to build and provide affordable mobility solutions with a particular emphasis on distributing them to those most in need. The founders of Yuba came together to advance economic and social development, promote self-reliance, and to emphasize better environmental awareness and lifestyle choices – all through the use of bicycles. Because bicycles are one of the most energy efficient, financially affordable, mechanically reliable, and environmentally friendly vehicles, Yuba believes that a more bike-centric world makes for a better, more connected world.

History of the Yuba Bicycle Manufacturing Company
In the late nineties Yuba co-founder and avid cyclist Benjamin Sarrazin spent several years traveling throughout South America, Europe and Africa. It was during this time that he became increasingly aware of the economic and social shortcomings of developing regions with little to no transportation options.

“One could see bikes everywhere, but they were useless for carrying cargo, which was crazy, because that’s exactly what they needed most,” remembers Sarrazin. He thought of a bike that could carry 50 kilos sacks of grain and mosquito nets over mountain trails. Such a bike would enable an entirely new means of mobility for the people who really needed to use their bike for transportation. Sarrazin partnered with Klaus Schröder, designer of the ScooterBike; they launched Yuba in the winter of 2007, collaborating with German bike maker Panther Werke to manufacture the bikes.
